The Mission of our church is the Transformation of all people into the likeness of Christ.
The Vision of our church is to be transformed into His likeness by being people of Faith, Family, and Service.
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with every-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. - 2 Corinthians 3:18
We believe, that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins and rose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8, John 3:16)
We believe, that the Bible is the inspired word of God - a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm1 119:105)
We believe, that those accepting Christ should repent of their sin, confess their faith and be baptized into Him. (Romans 10:9, Acts:2:30)
We believe, that the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to save the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
We believe, that Jesus Christ will one day return and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
In recounting the early history of Eminence Christian church Dr. Lynn Hieronymus in his book Eminence a Steeple Above the Prairie, says:
It was not a prosperous land which the first settlers come-this land which would someday be designated Eminence Township. Beautiful yes, but not prosperous, at least not prosperous in the early 1830s. For much of the flat prairie land that lies in what is now Logan County was then but swampy land, capable of growing little but prairie grass. John P. Hieronymus told of riding a horse through ponds "belly deep to a horse" while traveling from his home in northeast Eminence Township to the Academy (the early school) in Atlanta. (pg. 9)
In 1838 several families decided to establish a congregation to meet their spiritual needs. On Sunday, June 14, 1838 13 people affixed their signature to the founding statement. On the following day, June 15, seven more names were added. Located as it was near Sugar Creek the congregation was simply called the Sugar Creek Church.
The inconveniences of distance and travel in the 1850s made it difficult for some of the members of the Sugar Creek Church to be faithful in their attendance. THus it was in 1853 a number of members organized a new congregation about 5 miles to the west. This new congregation was called the Bethel Church.
Tragically on March 18, 1901 the church building was destroyed by fire. The church decided immediately to rebuild. Several features about the building are to be noted. It contained a very modern non-explosive gasoline lighting plant, secured at a cost of $300. An 800 pound church bell was mounted in the tower. Finally a baptistry was added. The new building was dedicated on Sunday, April 13 1902. In 2009 the church built on education wing and the fellowship hall.
The roots of Eminence Christian Church pastors also run deep. Lincoln Christian University (LCU) began its program of education for ministry in 1944 as Lincoln Bible Institute and Eminence Christian Church has benefited immensely. Nearly every minister of our congregation since 1946 has in some way been connected with the university. Since 1973 there has also been a series of youth ministers that serve our community, all of whom have been students at LCU.
